ACA 2017/18: Falcons v/s Tuscon Super Kings

Game 11 of the 2017/18 season for the Falcons, was a crucial crossing point in their path towards graduating from division elite to prestige in the next season, as they faced Tuscon Superkings who were in contention for a spot in division prestige alongside the Titans. The Falcons won the toss on a pleasant morning, and elected to bat at Sandpiper, only to reach a sub-par score of 176, failing to put partnerships together. However, the bowling attack pulled off an enormous feat to wind up the TSK innings in quick time.

The Falcons, opened their innings with their regular opening opening pair, in C. Dhekne and A. Londhe. C. Dhekne was striking the ball well early on, before he got one that stayed extremely low, rattling his stumps as the Falcons found themselves at 1/30 after 4.4 overs after which S. Murali fell in quick succession leaving the Falcons to build a partnership at 2/35. A. Londhe and J. Patel, then put together a good partnership re-building the innings, helping them come up to a stable score of 2/85 off 14 overs. But, it wasn't a day of partnerships, as A. Londhe succumbed to rash shot off of B. Jagadish and A Patel getting bowled soon after with not much foot movement. The Falcons found themselves in a tricky spot at 4/107 during the mid-innings break, while J. Patel was going strong at 22*(39) at the time who was joined in by M. Rohit 1*(9) fresh at the crease. The innings never gained any momentum from then, as the Falcons kept losing wickets at regular intervals winding up with a sub-par score of 176. J. Patel fought it out till the end, getting a gutsy 49(70), but in the end succumbed to farming the strike alongside the tail.

Even having put up a sub-par score, the Falcons went in to bowl in a positive frame of mind especially given how the Sandpiper wicket serves up uneven bounce on several occasions. The TSK openers, B. Jagadish and P. Patel seemed to have it under control, as they played out the opening bowlers, A. Tummala and R. Mehta in a quiet period of 5 overs. Given that there were 2 maidens bowled in succession bowled at this point, when A. Tummala came in to bowl his 3rd over, the pressure was building and it showed, as P. Patel was out bowled and R. Sundaram out lbw in the same over. From here on, quiet periods seemed very minimal as A. Tummala picked up another one to reduce TSK rid of their top 3 batsman at 3/23. The evidence for the train coming off its rails started becoming apparent when H. Mistry picked up in-form batsman, S. Raghavan reducing the TSK to 4/28 off of 11 overs. From this point, A. Londhe and H. Mistry picked up 5 more wickets between them in the next 4 overs reducing TSK to 9/44 off of 15 overs. The last wicket put up a 20 run partnership, but was never going to be able to do as much work to take them close to victory. H. Mistry, picked up the last wicket making it 5 in the innings giving away a meagre 8 runs in his 4.2 overs, bringing the Falcons back to winning form in the season.

A Landmark Worth Remembering

This post is mainly for the people who are saying that Sachin's 100th century isn't that special because it came against Bangladesh. The others who don't think that way can read it and take pleasure in reminiscing all the great moments that this great man has provided over the past 23 years. First of all, saying that it's not that special because it came against Bangladesh is entirely wrong because Bangladesh are progressing well and they have shown signs of this in the ongoing Asia Cup, coming close to Pakistan's total in the opening game and beating India in their second. In fact their bowling attack is what they rely on to win matches most of the times. Getting a hundred off that attack is not as easy as everyone thinks. Secondly, there are opinions that when Sachin scores a century India lose which might have been true on so many occasions in the past. But, does that statement mean that Sachin is losing India games by scoring centuries? It doesn'...

Captains Of This Era

Captains of this era have all been the perfect ones for their respective countries, if one considers the situation that each country was in at the time of being made captain. Andrew Strauss, Graeme Smith, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Ricky Ponting have all been good captains given the records that they possess even after such lengthy stays at the international level as captains. The thing that was common amongst these people was that they all had a good base for them to start on. Strauss was probably the one amongst these four to have started on shaky ground. Statistics as Captain for each player.                               Three people who catch the eye are Michael Clarke, Misbah-ul-Haq and Darren Sammy. All these 3 have been captain for about the same number of Tests which is on...

ACA 2017/18: Falcons v/s Phoenix CC

The Falcons, with 2 victories on their back against ASU and Tucson Superkings at the start of 2018, entered Game 9 of their season to play Phoenix CC who were lurking at the bottom of the table. The Falcons, being favorites to win this game put on a thumping performance, bowling Phoenix CC out earlier on and wrapping the up target, ending the game at 13:33 local time. The game started with Phoenix CC winning the toss and electing to bat, and in the end, what seemed like the only thing that went in their way on the day. The Phoenix CC batting order never seemed to gain momentum even though they were able to maintain decent run rate of 4 an over as they lost wickets to some good bowling from the Falcons at such regular intervals that it almost seemed like it was all being played out from a script that was already written for them. At the end of 20 overs as the teams went into their drinks break, Phoenix CC had lost a few too many wickets to their liking even though they were trudgi...
